Our Process
So! You are in love with concrete? Us too!! We wanted to share the process of how our concrete pieces are designed and crafted so we have included each stage below for your reading pleasure and for you to understand exactly what we do! All our pieces are mixed, poured, wet-polished, cleaned, sealed, packed and sent by us - it is an absolute labour of love but its incredible being part of the journey!
Stage 1 - Mixing
Our client picks their piece and desired colour... We carefully weigh out each component of the concrete mix and add into a bucket with the exact amount of colour oxide to achieve the required colour. We dry mix to ensure all the oxide is mixed into the concrete mix then we add water and mix to a smooth paste with fluidity. We wash and prepare the mold and then carefully hand-pour into the mold.
Stage 2 - Curing
After the concrete has been poured, we put it to bed! Literally! We put a blanket over our curing stand to keep it warm, turn off the lights, put on some relaxation music and tippy-toe out! The concrete sets in between 24-48 hours.
Stage 3 - De-molding
De-molding day is like Christmas morning! We skip down to the studio (after our morning coffee, of course) lift up the blankets and un-wrap the dried pieces, like a present! Its incredibly exciting, trust me.
Stage 4 - Wet Polishing
We usually leave the de-molded pieces uncovered for about 24 hours to allow it to dry. Then, we wet polish the piece to ensure all rough edges are gone and the piece is smooth.
Stage 5 - Cleaning
Its important to clean and etch the concrete before we seal as it opens the pores of the concrete and allows the penetrative sealer to work effectively.
Stage 6 - Sealing
One of the most important stages is applying our penetrative sealer. This sealer goes deep into the concrete and provides protection against some stains and water ingress. It is important to note that any spills that may occur on your piece must be cleaned up quite quickly as concrete is quite porous.
Stage 7 - Pack & Send
We carefully wrap your beautiful treasures and hand deliver them to our local post office, they are officially ready for their new home!
You're Welcome!
